Appleton Noon Lions Club of Appleton Wi. held its regular Board Meeting at the Columbus Club on March 22, 2007. Meeting was called to order at 11:00 A.M. by VP Charlie Garnier who acted as chairman with the following board members in attendance:
A motion was made by Schmit, seconded by Novitske, to approve the Sec. minutes as corrected. The minutes indicate that the Membership Committee presented the slate of officers for 2007-8 when, in fact, it was the Nominating Committee who did so - motion passed. A motion was made by Pleuss, seconded by Sawyers to approve the Treas. report as presented - carried. Fund balances are as follows: Admin. Act. $1164, Charity Act. $1954, Restricted Sight Act. $4406, Contingency Act. $98, Becker Act. $19,227. Total $26,850.

Since Mary Beth is a member of our club, it is felt that it would be appropriate for us to make a contribution to their continuing effort in Nicaragua. These scholarship funds will provide financial assistance to any number of high school and young adults they see the need for. There are currently 28 high school students being served via scholarship funds. The young adults involved, are either in college or seeking careers via tech school programming - nursing, auto mechanics, cooking and sewing programs, etc;
The Flag Day/150th Birthday of Appleton event is upcoming. Discussion took place as to possible participation in the parade itself Lion Rick Langan will present information for us at an upcoming meeting of the membership. We will then decide whether we want to become involved or not, and if so, what that entails.
We have had no response from any of the 5 local high schools, as yet, relative to the World Affairs Seminar upcoming. Should they not respond, the money set aside for this effort will be returned to our treasury.
Concern was expressed by many present relative to the telling of stories at Monday meetings. The telling of stories is not necessarily in order, if fact, should be used only sparingly and then only in good taste. Some stories can be an embarrassment to our membership, and even more so to our guests. We, as a club, cannot allow that to happen. This is not intended to quelch any attempts to keep our meetings from being a fun place to be, sharing a laugh or 2 with our friends, but rather a place where business at hand and a message from a speaker is given highest priority, for that is what Lionism is all about- becoming informed and serving the community.
A reminder - the State Convention is upcoming - May 18-19 in Oconomowoc; we can send 6 voting delegates.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 AM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Tom 0'Hearn, Secretary

All were quite active in a number of projects, especially the Rose Sale.

Those interested in replacing Lion Karl Blahnik as mint sales person should make it known ASAP so as to make it easier for the personnel committee to take your early application into consideration when making a choice to replace him. Thank you in advance.
Likewise the Nominating Committee is about to make a world-wide search to seek qualified members for Lions Club office for 2007-8. You may be eligible. Don't be bashful. Step right up and volunteer for one of these high profile jobs. The rewards are beyond this world, so is the pay.
